Interview: Cassie Steele Gets "Half-Naked" On 'L.A. Complex'
![]() You may recognize her as Degrassi’s high school sexpot Manny Santos, but that young thing’s a cakewalk compared to Abby Vargas on The CW’s new drama The L.A. Complex. As she packs her things and finds herself in sunny California shacked up with driven (and drop-dead gorgeous) roommates, Abby has to figure out where her morals lie and just what she’s willing to do in order to make it big. Before tonight’s all-new episode, we grilled the star of the show on her Degrassi past, playing a dreamer, and if there’s hope for her pining roommate Nick. Get ready, Los Angeles: Cassie Steele is all grown up. So what was it like transitioning from playing a high-schooler in Manny to a young adult like Abby? Manny was a promiscuous character at times, but the first thing I had to film with L.A. Complex was [being] half-naked and that was something I never had to encounter before! And the proximity within the sex scenes and things that we were allowed to do… things that we had to mute before were things that we kind of had to accentuate [this time]. So it was a big difference, and definitely I would go as far as to say uncomfortable for me at first. But then it’s very liberating to be able to sort of portray such a real character. So I love it! It feels really great, I feel like the more risky and real character is something that every actor wants to be able to do. And now the show’s a big hit in Canada and has made its way across the border. Were you nervous about the show’s success? At first—obviously because it’s such a new project—it was really nerve wracking. And it wasn’t just a pilot… we did film six without knowing whether we were gonna get picked up or not! So it definitely tested some of our nerves. But the writing and the concepts are just really incredible, and we thankfully got a really good response. It hasn’t just made its way to the U.S., but it’s on The CW, the same network for Degrassi alums Nina Dobrev and Shenae Grimes. And I feel really, really thankful and blessed. It’s just so crazy because I mean it’s something that I never thought that would happen to me. And I think that a lot of people [on the show] feel like that; you see the girls and guys on The CW and you think, “wow, they made it. They’re up there.” So I have to hit myself with a bottle every morning, just to process it. It’s been crazy. Everybody has been so supportive and I’m still trying to grasp it. And I’ve been seeing Shenae a lot! She films in L.A. so it’s been nice to see her more often. Nina is actually in Atlanta, so we don’t really go to cafes there much! But hopefully now I can see here a little bit more. It feels nice, getting the family back together! So how does Abby handle being in Hollywood with so many, um, distractions? Well, my character is very driven, and that’s something you don’t really see, especially from somebody with so little experience in the industry, and that’s why I really wanted to play her. I mean, there’s so many things that happen to her, as you see in the first episode- all these things are happening to her and yet she can only think about work. I mean, obviously she has emotions and things affect her, but it revolves all around her work. When I see a cute guy… I’m like, woah, do I actually have to work today? Because it’s like 5 o’ clock! [Laughs] So obviously we see things go down with Abby and Connor in the pilot, but what’s going on with Abby and Nick? Do they have a future? …Maybe. I mean, Nick is attractive, he’s funny, he’s got nice biceps… he seems like a catch to me! All the guys are a catch on the show! So if you put me in a room with them, there’d be tons of sparks. You’d have to watch out. You’d have to get some glasses- it’d be sparking up in there! -- The L.A. Complex is brand new TONIGHT at 9pm on The CW. Source Posted on 01 May 2012 by Jessie
New lyrics and downloads!
It's been a while since I've added some new content (besides gallery updates) to the site, but alas, I have a few updates for you! This is a few days late, but you can find all the lyrics to the 'Shifty' EP up on the site. Click here. You might remember Cassie singing 'Takin' Care of Business' on Tuesday's episode of The L.A. Complex. Well, now you can download it! You can find the link up with all the other downloads, here! The song is only a rip from the TV show, so it's only 25 seconds. But for those of you who want it, there you go! Enjoy! I still have more to put up on the site - more downloads, etc. So hopefully I'll be able to get more of that up in the coming days. Be patient with me! Posted on 27 Apr 2012 by Jessie
